About Our Conference

A handful of volunteers, one neighbour at a time.

The Bradford Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is part of a worldwide Catholic lay movement founded in Paris in 1833. We have served the Bradford community since 1965, always as volunteers and never as paid staff.

Our members come from local parishes. We meet for prayer and reflection on the second Tuesday of each month, review the requests that have come in, and then visit in pairs during the following weeks.

What Guides Us

Five words the Society has kept for almost two centuries.

Spirituality

We see Christ in the person in front of us. Prayer and reflection come before every visit we make.

Friendship

We do not deliver and disappear. Members stay in touch, sometimes for years, as a friend would.

Service

Help is practical and immediate: food, fuel, warmth, transport, or simply a person who will listen.

Simplicity

No bureaucracy. One phone call, one visit, one honest conversation about what would help most.

Advocacy

When a problem is bigger than a hamper, we help neighbours find and navigate the services they are owed.
